On 11 October MPs vote on the Natural Enviroment and Rural Communities Bill, which could provide protection for trails from the damage caused by motor vehicles. With a suitable amendment, the Bill could also help clarify bikers' ability to claim rights of way, in the same way that walkers and horse-riders can.
CTC is lobbying MPs to ensure that cyclists can claim 'restricted byway' rights. This would enable new trails to be opened for off-road biking, because where there is enough evidence of past cycle use, we will gain a permanent right to use the trail.
This could provide the first new opportunity to claim off-road rights for cyclists since bridleways were opened up to bikers nearly 40 years ago.
This is where you come in. The more people who put pressure on their MP, the more likely it is that this will become law. It takes about 2 minutes and is simple. Do your bit by going along to http://www.ctc.org.uk/campaigns/ and following the instructions.
