Jens Voigt speaks out in the fight against doping, defending champ Denis Menchov quits the Vuelta, N
PIC BY TDWSPORT.COM Speaking in an interview with German newspaper Die Welt this week, CSC's Jens Voigt, one of the most respected riders in the pro peleton, and rider representative on the UCI ProTour Council, has asked for an improvement in drug testing procedures. "We are doing a lot against doping but we need better tests that do not leave an element of doubt. The tests must be positive or negative - no lawyers, no complaints," the German said. "But it is a question of money. Who should pay for this development?" - Defending Vuelta champion Denis Menchov (Rabobank) was a non-starter on Wednesday's 11th stage of the Vuelta, suffering with stomach problems. - France's Nicolas Jalabert - younger brother of former pro Laurent - has signed a one-year contract with French team Agritubel for 2007. The 33 year old has spent the last three seasons with Phonak, but the Swiss team will cease to exist at the end of this season. - Fabrizio Guidi (Phonak) won Wednesday's third stage of the Tour of Poland between Gdansk and Torun, beating Lampre's Daniele Bennati and Euskaltel's Koldo Fernandez in a bunch sprint. Guidi now leads Bennati overall by a second with four stages of the ProTour event remaining.
