Despite an injury-plagued season, the Trek-Volkswagen Racing Team pulled it together for the USA Cycling Championships at Mt. Snow, Vermont, as team rider Jeremiah Bishop scored a podium spot in the Men's XC event.

Bishop, who battled a respiratory ailment for much of the season, emerged from illness to capture a hard-fought second place aboard his Trek Top Fuel 9.9, outfitted somewhat unconventionally with a single 32-tooth front chainring.

"There's no hiding from the technical nature of the course," said Bishop, reflecting on the steep climbs and incredibly demanding descents that forced many riders to walk. "It's geared to the strengths of real mountain bikers."

In the women's cross-country race, Sue Haywood worked with team mate Lea Davison to finish just shy of the podium, scoring sixth and seventh respectively. Davison, whose 2006 season-ending elbow dislocation was followed by an IT band problem earlier this season, also showed strong form in the Short Track race, finishing sixth, just ahead of reigning National Short Track Champion Haywood.

"I'm feeling great," said a rejuvenated Davison, driving herself home from the race in her VW GTI to prepare for the next NMBS race in Sugar Mountain. "It's about time! I can't wait for North Carolina!"
