It s yellow and it s LOUD

Postman Pat paid us a little visit...

With the amount of snow we've recently had, we decided to sack off work for the day and head up the golf course to shred the bunkers on our bikes. Obviously it was a good laugh, but it was made better by an extended pub lunch after, and returning to the office to discover that the postie had been- here's what he brought us...

Doddy's new longtermer

Because Justin Loretz had always hogged the Turner quota in MBUK towers for so long, none of the rest of us got a look in, but now he's working on our sister mag What Mountain Bike, I've started paying Turner some attention. Especially now the Faux bar that replaced the original four bar design has been ditched in favour of a DW lower link, and a rocker activated shock. The 5 Spot has my name all over it - but is it as good as everyone thinks?

Doddy's pick of the crop from the Cycle Show

It's an exciting time of year for the bike industry, as new products are flooding the market. Normally I'm out at the big trade-shows and get to see this stuff fairly early on, but having been bolted to my desk this year, I've missed out on the big shows - so Cycle was a great chance for me to catch up with some industry folk and see the highlights for 2009...

Marin Bikes 2009

Marin has been around for a long time in the UK, and have made some fantastic bikes over the years. The early Muirwoods and budget bikes had that grey polymer rubber 'paint' finish and were tough as a pair of Goth's DM's... Unfortunately, like many brands, they've had a few 'interesting' bikes through the years- but now have one of the best rounded ranges on the scene- period. RIP the B17 and that horrible monocoque Quake thing they used to make, and long live the Quad 140mm bikes...

Empire Cycles and Slik Graphics

Yesterday afternoon, Craig and Chris of Empire Cycles- the infamous moulded DH bike- paid us a visit and left us with their very special bike to have a thorough play with...

Kona Mash Up MBUK Awards

Being the first of it's kind in the UK, some 350 riders battled it out for the best times they could get in both Enduro and Technical categories last weekend. We were on hand trying to spot the people we thought deserved the MBUK awards- here's who won...

Bold is in

Lairy colours are the way forwards

Gone are the days when day-glo clothing makes cyclists stand out as urban freaks, and in are the brightest colourways you can find- and we;re lapping them up. They look great in photos- especially with the UK's trademark grey skies- and now apres bike fashion seems to be following along nicely...

Doddy’s Whistler Eh Diaries

It’s been a few days since Doddy bothered to update us with his roving travels- but seeing as he’s on holiday we’ve let him off the hook- but here’s his latest developments…

Doddy's Whistler Diaries part one

At last I've arrived at the bike mecca of the world- Whistler. The flight here was pretty cool as we flew over Greenland with crystal clear views of the ice-packs and stuff...

But ready to be filled right up

Doddy's Socom gets ready to Whistle...

Although she's been ridden a fair bit, my Intense has been in a bit of a state, so she's been undergoing a decent service and is having a few new bits fitted for my holiday thrash-fest in Whistler next week. If you're going to be out there, hunt me down and we'll go and session a few runs...

A bit of bad weather and the nostalgia comes out

Tinkering in the rain

On those wet and windy Saturday afternoons, there's sometimes nothing more satisfying than a pint of tea and some bike tinkering...

The calm before the storm

Fort Bill kicks off...

That's right - it's that time of year again, only it's strangely warm and dry this year. Walking around the pits it's actually hot and dusty...

Pimp

The postman has dumped his load...

Our poor old posties have been really busy this week- there's been an influx of kit turn up at the office- and some really fly bikes too- here's a little look at a few bits and pieces...

Brighter than the sun

Trawling through old tat...

At the recent Demo Day finale at Newnham Park in Plymouth, I bumped in to a local rider who was ripping round on a great Orange Clockwork - in that loud original orange colourway. He'd had his forks resprayed to match, and we generally got chatting about hardtails and the old days - which made me start sifting through random boxes of photos when I got home...
