Aldi cycling gear is back in store
Hot on the heels of Lidl’s recent sale of bike tools and gear, Aldi - the ‘other’ UK-based German budget store - will be selling a range of Crane Sports branded cycling gear from Thursday 18 September in most stores across the country.
Concentrating mostly on clothing, the range looks to be a commuters’ dream, with a high-viz rain jacket for £12.99, waterproof cycling trousers for £7.99 and thermal gloves for £3.99 a pair.
Other highlights available are the cycling cap and overshoes for £5.99, cycling socks for £2.49 a pair and SPD shoes for £19.99. We’ve tested some Crane Sports products in the past, and they’ve performed very well for the price [see related articles, right].
Are you wearing Aldi stuff for your rides? If so, let us know how it’s performed – use the comments section below.

Brilliant. I was planning on buying some winter bib tights. Seems that I will get a couple from there. Socks and jacket look good too :)

Had jerseys, shorts and socks - all still in one piece so far and fine for two or three hour rides.
Any indication if there will be tights? Story doesn't mention them.

There'll be long trousers & "long trousers with bib and brace". Thermal underwear too.

The socks are excellent - gloves too (although the gloves really are very warm).
The long sleeve jersey is somewhat baggier than I'd like, but quality is decent and it's comfortable enough. Bib long sizing last year was utterly bizarre - short in the leg, with a bib designed either for someone very tall, or very wide.
Never had one of their jackets, although lots of people complained about the quality of the gilet this year (hopefully they're a different supplier for the zips on the winter jackets!)

My bib longs are about to go into their third winter and even after a fairly heavy crash on ice last year don't look worn out yet. One of the zip pullers snapped off, but that's the only failure so far. I have found them to be very warm even in temperatures below freezing. For the money they have been really good, and having to shorten the shoulder straps to get the rather long-in-the-body fit right for me was a minor inconvenience. The insert is not up to much, but I wear shorts underneath anyway so that doesn't matter much. I've also got two long sleeved jerseys still going strong, a pair of gloves also about to go into a thrid winter and the thermal hat - that only comes out in temperatures below zero, though, as under a helmet I'd melt with it on otherwise.

Shoes...brilliant and last very well
Jerseys - a bit baggy but great value
Bib tights - excellent value and holding together well despite some crashes
Tees - I have a number of these and they are as good as anything I have worn for cycling
"Baggy" shorts - the one disappointment. The liner did not really stay where it should and the outers were more fitting of a swimming short.
Overshoes - too much off road "hike a biking" has demolished these but otherwise they were OK
I've also used their computers which have been very good too.
All my friends laughed at me for wearing Aldi and now they all wear it.

Bought a load of their kit earlier this year. Looking forward to Thursday as the gear I got last time is great. Gloves, jacket all fine and wearing well. The only problem I have had is the exploding pump (see the forums as I note others have had the same problem). I gave up on that and bought a Bontrager floor pump.

Here is Australia. Mind you I do miss the miles and miles of free land access via Bridleways and Byways in the UK. I do not miss the mud.

The bib tights are a bit short in the leg, but so am I, so they fit well, and the quality is way above what I expected for £9.99; worth 4 or 5 times as much. Shoes are very comfortable, and generously sized compared to most cycling shoes I've owned. I'll be going back for more socks - truly excellent!
