Anyone still hoping to get entry to this weekend’s inaugural Great Manchester Cycle will be disappointed after the 7,000 entry limit was reached.
The closed-road sportive will take place during the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee on Monday 4 June and take place on a 13 mile loop through the city centre, including a stretch of the iconic Mancunian Way motorway.
Starting and finishing at Eastlands, the home of Manchester City FC, the course takes in the districts of Manchester, Trafford and Salford, allowing cyclists the chance to see their city from a new perspective as they ride along roads normally strictly off limits to cyclists. Three distances are on offer; Get Out and Pedal over 13 miles, Rule the Roads over 26 miles or Test Yourself over 52 miles.
Among those taking part are champion cyclists Rebecca Romero and Lizzie Armitstead, as well a host of stars from Manchester-based soap Coronation Street.
