Waitrose to deliver the goods by bike in Cambridge
Waitrose, the UK supermarket chain, has this week begun trialling a bicycle delivery service for customers who order their groceries online.
In a move to increase the amount of delivery slots on offer while reducing the number of its vans on the road, Waitrose staff will be riding hybrid pedal/electric bikes towing a custom trailer attached capable of holding six trays of groceries including frozen grub.
The delivery service will be available to customers living within a maximum of thirty miles from the store.

Hopefully this is the start of a trend. Here in Boston there are a few restaurants that use cyclists to make deliveries - and they also function as highly visible billboards.
IKEA Denmark also started renting bicycle/trailer combinations when they realized that their Copenhagen customers were already trying to pedal home those flat-pack bookcases (can you imagine)
