Critérium du Dauphiné Libéré

Stage 7: Saint-Jean-de Maurienne - Grenoble 128km

Dauphiné final: Alejandro Valverde victorious

Spaniard Alejandro Valverde (Caisse d'Epargne) won the Dauphine Libere cycling race into Grenoble after the seventh and final stage Sunday.

Kazakh Dmitriy Fofonov of Credit Agricole won the 128km stage.

Valverde, winner of two stages during the week, took the title ahead of Australian Cadel Evans of the Silence-Lotto team.

The 28-year-old Spaniard grabbed the race lead on Wednesday as a result of winning the time-trial at Saint-Paul-en-Jarez. It was his first success in the Dauphiné Libéré in three attempts and puts him among the favourites for next month's Tour de France.
