Alright, alright it means very little in the grand scheme of things but four of the 10 sports stars nominated for the 2009 BBC Sports Personality of the Year Awards are cyclists.
Olympic champs Chris Hoy, Nicole Cooke, Bradley Wiggins and Rebecca Romero join fellow Olympic winners Rebecca Adlington (swimming) , Ben Ainslie (sailing) and Christine Ohuruogo (athletics) plus F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton, boxer Joe Calzaghe and British tennis number 1 Andy Murray on the list.
We'll all be able to vote on Sunday December 14 for our favourite and therein lies the problem – who do we choose? Obviously, it'd be rather nice for a cyclist to win. Now let's assume that all cyclists will vote for a cyclist (and I know some of you will cast your vote elsewhere – hey I might – and that some of you simply don't care). But if all cyclists vote for a cyclist then we'll all have our favourite and that might mean the bike vote is diluted. What to do? According to bookies William Hill, Lewis Hamilton is favourite, followed by Adlington and then Hoy. Cooke and Romero are 100/1 outsiders while Wiggins is an 80/1 long shot. Mmmm...Ohuruogo it is then!
