People say I've got a dream job. I guess that's because a big part of my life for the last twenty years or so has been spent testing bikes. The 'job' bit is writing about them, and looking for other ways of getting people to read bike mags, ride bikes more and promote the wonders of doing so to those who don't quite get it. It's not as easy as it sounds.
I'm certainly not going to moan, because it's true that I can't think of anything I'd rather be doing. But bear in mind that I spend most of my ride time riding bikes that, in my ideal world, would be being ridden by someone else. It's hard to find a whole lot of things actually wrong with them these days... not like back in the 'good old days' when every other bike was likely to be majorly flawed... they're just not the sort of bikes I'd choose to buy in my ideal world of the spoilt-for-choice.
But just occasionally a bike turns up that suits my needs to a tee. The Yeti AS-R Carbon is one of those bikes. It's more than just a little bit special. We'll be reporting on it in detail soon in What Mountain Bike. All I'm going to say for now is that it's making me ride all my favourite local XC loops faster than I do on my Santa Cruz Superlight or my Ellsworth Epiphany. As I said, I'm spoilt for choice, but this particular Yeti is a bike that a lot of riders will be aspiring to own...
