Shimano has in the past been responsible for some unorthodox wheel designs but the new range of wheels have reverted to using nipples that are inserted through the rim in the traditional way, as they are deemed to be easier to true up than previous Shimano designs.

At just 1370g the new carbon-alloy composite Dura Ace clincher wheels are getting closer to the sort of weight normally associated with a full-carbon rim, but its aluminium braking surface offers superior control when braking hard on long descents.

The new 16/20 spoke Ultegra SL WH-RS20 wheels are a silver-coloured version of the existing black clincher wheels.
