Things started positively this week with good weather a 0.8kg weight-loss and good form on the bike. The remnants of last week’s cough were being felt at the start of the week but it’s been one of those weeks where I want to continue riding instead of going into the office!
I’ve kept my route into work similar to last week however, twice I added in a detour up the fearsome one
On the subject of road bikes, my new Verenti Millook arrived from Wiggle on Thursday and all I can say is WOW! It’s a really nice bike; light and stiff, but supple and forgiving when you want it to be. It’s inspiring me to take more of a ‘roadie stance’ on the bike with more bend to my arms and a tighter arch to my back. I’m also doing more riding on the drops, though only for short periods at the moment. These changes are working new sets of muscles, which might not seem like news to some seasoned cyclists, but as someone who did virtually no hard exercise for 10 years, these small changes don’t always come easily. I did a nice 35mile ride with some friends on Saturday morning over Sherriffmuir and the Verenti didn’t miss a beat - it climbs beautifully and handles like nothing else, especially on the descents.
I’ve tried to push hard on a couple of my journeys, though this was on my MTB Hybrid as I was too wrapped up in getting a feel for the Verenti to really focus on training on Friday. I timed a five mile stint at roughly 14mins 30secs on a route with some downhill sections so I’m hoping for a similar time when it comes to my first flat five mile TT on the 29th April, though if I get a time around 14mins I’ll be made up!
