Illness threatened to hamper my Team Cycling Plus training this week. I started out with gastroenteritis, which allowed that old hawk, the common head-cold, to pounce and install itself in my system. It actually wasn’t as bad as it sounds, I had one day off the bike on Monday and was back cycling to work on Tuesday. I progressively felt stronger all week though I’ve got a lingering cough, which is still making riding at maximum effort uncomfortable.
The gastroenteritis helped me lose a couple of pounds extra this week and dropped me to 87.5kg. Since then I think I’ll have gone up slightly as I re-hydrate but I’m aiming to stay below 88.9kg (14stone).
On Saturday morning I went out for my usual group ride “The Saturday Hour”, however fog on the Carse of Stirling diverted the route away from the flats and into the hills. We started by tackling
I got some good advice on interval training during the ride from a seasoned time-trialler, which I’m aiming to put into practice over the next two weeks as I have my first five mile TT on the 29th April. My plan is to treat this first TT as a tool to see where my base level is and provide me something to build on over the coming months as I complete the six round series organised by Stirling Bike Club. I’ll be having a go at intervals on my way to work over the next two weeks as the event approaches, but I’m sure following our coach’s advice of “Put it on the biggest gear and turn your legs as fast as you can” will stand me in good stead!
