A week of work experience at MBUK

Harry Tuesday, Oct 30, 2007 12.00am

Day 1 - I arrived at the MBUK office on Monday morning eager to see how it all worked and how the magazine was produced. First I was assigned the job of making sure the magazine databases were up to date.

I flicked through some of the latest magazines and typed in which bikes were featured in the previous test sections. Later on in the day I was asked to type up some race results.

Day 2 - Today I took some bikes back to the MBUK Bat Cave, which is where all the bikes that the mag has on test are kept. After giving a bike a quick clean and looking at some others we headed back off to the office. After typing up some more results I finished for the day.

Day 3 - On my third day I typed up an Introduction for the Hype section of the mag based on the Fat Face urban downhill in Edinburgh. Later on I wrote reviews on a helmet, tyre and a base-layer for Doddy. I also got to have a good look at all the bikes in the basement.

Day 4 - Today we went down to the basement for a big cleanout. We took out all the old mags, some of which dated back to 1997. Then we arranged them all into years before finally packing them up and putting them back on the shelves. Back at the office I drew up a timetable for all the up-coming events in 2008.

Day 5 - We went back down to the basement today were we arranged the magazines properly into months. After, I had a quick ride on Doddy's new Intense then it was back up to the office so I could write this blog!

All in all it was a great week and I got everything out of it I had hoped for.
