Vote in the What Mountain Bike Awards!

Matt Skinner, What Mountain Bike editor Tuesday, Apr 29, 2008 11.54am

Here at What Mountain Bike, we’re gearing up for the big event in our bike testing calendar: the 2008 Bike of the Year Awards issue, set to hit the shelves on June 25.

Held annually for the past seven years, the What Mountain Bike Awards are the longest-running MTB awards out there, highlighting and rewarding only the very best bikes and product available to buy. This year, we’ll be doing things a little differently and, for the first time ever, we’re asking for your votes. Three of our awards will be decided by you, our readers. Those awards are: UK Trail Centre of the Year, UK Event of the Year, and UK Unsung Hero of the Year. We want to know who or what you think should win (see below for all the details on how to vote, or click through to the voting page. Everyone who votes will automatically be entered into a draw to win our current favourite sub-£500 hardtail, a Focus Fat Boy, courtesy of www.wiggle.co.uk.

Expert opinions

Our team of expert testers has been putting in the miles on the trails in every weather, testing, cogitating and debating the merits of our favourite bikes. With our new Buyer’s Guide (starting on page 153) highlighting what we currently view as the top bikes and product in each category, our new Awards will be headlined by our Bike of the Year winner, chosen from a shortlist of the very best bikes. The winner will follow in the illustrious footsteps of our previous champions, including the GT i-Drive 5 2.0 (2007), Giant Anthem (2006), Scott Genius MC20 (2005), Giant XTC (2004), Specialized Enduro (2003) and Marin Rock Springs (2002).

We will also be revealing the number one Product of the Year that will make your ride experience better – guaranteed. We’ll also name our Innovation of the Year: the product or bike that promises to blaze a new path into the future or that simply solves a problem with genius simplicity, prompting sighs of, ‘Why didn’t I think of that?’ around the globe.

Best of the best

There’ll be all this plus our individual awards for each and every bike and major component category, our individual team picks, and more besides that we’re keeping under hats for now. The result will be the most thorough and trustworthy Awards you can get your hands on.

VOTE NOW!

Vote now for a chance to win a new Focus Fat Boy bike, worth £450

This year, we’re asking readers to take part in the voting for the What Mountain Bike Awards. We want your nominations in three categories:

A) Trail Centre of the Year

Purpose-built trail centres are popping up all over the UK – but which offers the best mix of great riding, well maintained trails and great facilities?

B) Event of the Year

What was the best mountain biking event you’ve taken part in during the past 12 months: which one offered the best mix of riding, facilities and atmosphere? It could be a 24-hour race, a demo day, a marathon, stage race or a festival.

C) Unsung Hero of the Year

This is your chance to tell us about the behind-the-scenes heroes of mountain biking. From trail builders, event organisers and forest rangers to bike shop staff and coaches, there are hundreds of people out there supporting mountain bikers and inspiring others to take up the sport.
