i bought some of the above mentioned ultra cheapies from ebay and am very happy with it. Surprisingly bright for a shitty ebay purchase. Its not the brightest thing ever but its more than enough rapidly moving flashy shoot for cars at the side to notice me i reckon.

You know those wheel reflectors that bike shops used to fit to all new bikes ? The orange ones you take off as soon as you get the bike home ?

Well, you're basically re-fitting the same thing, but because they're (a) more expensive and (b) flash, it's acceptable ?

Bunch of tarts!

LOL! You do realise that having an active light means they'll always be visible from the side, whilst that's not the case with a reflector. A driver waiting at a side road doesn't have any lights pointing at you, so won't get a return from the reflector.

DealExtreme do ones that pop up messages as you go. Things like I love you, etc... Now if they did one which flashed up the speed from my cycle computer, I'd give it a go...

Winners never pootle, pootlers never win. Those who never pootle and never win should trade up to a road bike.

I had a look at these - was concerned about the weight and waterproofness of them.

If you could display a tally of SCR scalps though... Wink

Why upset the balance or aerodynamics of your wheels by putting these lights in? The reflectors that come supplied with most bikes are crap anyway and have to go as soon as you get a bike. So why re-fit similar? If you really want to be noticed just wear hi-viz scotchlite on your clothing and helmet and get decent front and rear lights. Anyway I think a vehicle including a bike is only supposed to have lights facing front and rear. These are gimmicks and make you look like a chav on a BSO. Blue lights are certainly not legal on anything except police and emergency service vehicles.

Life is like a roll of toilet paper; long and useful, but always ends at the wrong moment. Anon.

Reflectors are no good if the observer has no lights pointing towards you from near their sightline. For example, the driver in a car at a side road.

Upset the balance or aerodynamics of your wheels? Really clutching at straws there, I think.

No lights facing sideways? I'm not sure that's correct either.

Sideways lights are encouraged on vehicles...think LGV's with the orange ones all down the side, or a car with repeaters on the wings.

As for upsetting the balance...i'll get another set and put them the opposite side to even them up if you think that would be better? Wink
