I have Rudy Projects which take a prescription insert. The insert is rather like a cheap paid of wire frame specs, but with no arms. There are mounting points on the bridge of the RPs. They are spaced slightly wider than the bridge of the insert, so you stretch the insert a bit and presto! the insert holds itself in place.
Invaluable to me, as my prescription means I see vertical lines as a blur. Not great for judging where the side of a car is. Amongst other things.

Never considered them, TBH I assumed they'd be the cost of a small car.
I will have to go and ask if they'd go up to my prescriprtion without weighting the bike down. do they make a huge difference, I've never had problems with my usual prescription glasses or polarised tinted ones

I've got prescription Oakley Flack Jackets with Reactions lenses. The did cost a small fortune but since I wear them for running as well I find them pretty much invaluable.

Liam I have indeed thought of contact lenses but i'm a bit squeamish when it comes to matters of the eye....my wife and kids think I should go the contact route and it certainly solves other problems ie what do to with cycling glasses if it rains...do you use contacts..or they easy to get used to? I am sure they would be a great boost to my cycling confidence amongst other things

I do Trev,
I used them years ago and for what ever reason I stopped.
Was going through the same process as you 6 months ago or so and upon speaking with the optician, they sorted me out with a test and some samples. I wear dailies, which as it sounds, you wear em for a day and chuck em away. A months worth is 22 quid - if you wear them every day which I don't so they generally last 6 weeks or so.
Freedom to wear what ever sun/cycling specs you want (I bought about 8 pairs since i began wearing lenses lol) and you can put em in and take em out in seconds when you get the hang of it, which doesnt take long.
Thumbs up here Trev.

hi mate
whats your prescription? detail the power of your contact lenses etc
if i were you i would buy something like this:
http://www.extreme-eyewear.co.uk/adidas-sunglasses---evil-eye-pro-a126-and-a127-p-184.php
have 2 or 3 different tints- sunglasses tint, bright high contrast filter for over cast days, and clear lenses for night riding
then have a precription insert made
if you need more advice let me know m8

I have some of these; the frames seem quite cheap but it's the lenses you're paying for. Wouldn't say I love them or hate them but they've served me well for the last four years, a much better solution than lense inserts or contacts in my opinion.

i disagree m8, inserts are a much safer bet- some prexcriptions cant be placed into frames like those from optilabs
also with the inserts you can change the outer lenses depended on weather conditions or if they get damaged. if you scratch the optilab ones your buggered

I'm sure Optilabs will let you know whether they can do glasses for your prescription or not... I went for the reactions lenses which are great for most conditions and don't see why they're any more at risk from scratches than any other glasses? Personally i wouldn't choose the compromise of inserts when they cost more.

and im sure they wouldn't actually! Its noit as simple as "they can or cant do it"- for the most part its a case of "yeah we can do it- whether you will get on with them properly or not is a gamble...."
your glasses are not at greater risk of scratches, just that its a bigger deal if it happens:
1) buy some addidas style glasses with inserts: lenses get scratched- no big deal, the frame is good, the inserts are good- buy some replacement lenses- cost- i dunno, maybe £30? you have an outer layer of plastic which is more expendable.
2) buy the ones you reccomend- if the lenses get scrached- they are precription- and as such MUCH more expensive!
explain what the comprimises of inserts are exactly??

Daily single use contact lenses are superb imho. I wear glasses cos I am lazy but use the lenses for any sort of sport. At approx £1 a pair I prob get through 10 a month MAX so it is very cheap.
I appreciate you may be squeamish but talk to your optician. They are very good at talking you through how to use them and put them in / take them out, they will do a series of sessions for you if you like. It really is very easy to get used to (I have put lenses in in a howling gale on the side of a mountain), you will be amazed by the benefits they provide. Don't rule them out until you have given them a fair trial.

Unfortunately, because of my astigmatism there isn't a daily toric lens that fits my right eye otherwise I'd use contacts in a shot.
