looking for a decent bike to race on next season.

Considered the cycle to work scheme but reckon i can get better second hand from one of you lot...

i'll be looking for at least a 58/large frame as i'm 6'3" and currently riding a 61cm.

Ideally wanting a decent carbon frame with good shimano components, 105 minimum, preferably Ultegra, not bothered about amazing wheels or finishing kit, i'll hopefully upgrade them as and when.
I am after a complete bike though not just bits and bobs cause i'm a muppet with no mechanical ability to put anything together.

I'm based in Leeds but would be willing to travel an hour or so to collect, got family in North London so could also pick up from around there if needs be.

If anyone's got anything that might be of interest give me a pm...

cheers

It's not Carbon, but I have a Ridley Pegasus (built in 2008) that is bullet fast. It's a 58, and I'm 6'3" as well.

I was looking at selling or swapping for a similar quality bike.

Let me know if interested. I'm in London.

Look for Buy It Now prices instead of bidding. You should be able to get a Specialized Tarmac/Roubaix and occasionally a Trek Madone in your price range. In fact there was a Tramac on for £750 Buy It Now earlier in the week - but it has now gone to bids and may well exceed his BIN price. I think that the Trek that was recommended earlier in the thread will exceed your budget by the end of the bid.

Somebody had a carbon Giant TCR2 with Ultegra groupset on for BIN of £800 earlier too, which looked quite a good bike - now gone.

If you are bidding, why not use some 'sniping' software which enters your bid in the last second (you choose your maximum bid and then leave it the software). You will not win the item if your bid is exceeded but it saves you getting involved in a bidding 'war'. Try www.gixen.com for free sniping.

Yeah I'm, also watching ebay like a hawk and have zero luck in the bidding. I'm beginning to think I'll end up buying new in the new yr or off this forum if something comes up at a decent price.

Have you trawled backwds thru the listings on this forum, sellers aren't necc looking at other threads. Not for you but for instance, a lovely ladies Madone at £900 is currently posted, I'd have bought it by now - if I had £900.

Re ebay sniping s/w - everyone does that, that's why its so difficult to get a sniff, and you have to guess the best price already listed elswehere pr you're still doomed to failure, just automated failure!

Just noted your username - Satan? Blimey, better be nice to you then. Are there really 79other Satans, clearly a popular moniker. Hehe, Satan on a road bike, the firey chariot drawn by demon horses must be in for its MOT.

never even heard of 'swiping', no wonder i've been losing out and cursing at my computer screen for all these years!

e-mailed the guy a few questions about that Giant cause it did look like a good bike, but it sold before i had a chance.

haven't had a trawl through this forum really but that's will be my next plan of action Jane!

please do not stop giving me help or suggestions because of my name, i am a nice guy even if i do have horns and reside in the pits of hell (Leeds)

Beelzebub / Lucifer, you can always try Gumtree. Before you scream, there are sometimes genuine sellers who put their bikes up for sale. This is identifiable by the bikes descrption.

It's usually guys who don't want to lose 10% to ebay.

Another option is having a bike built privately. You can get some full carbons, or alu/carbon composites built for the £1000 mark. I had my other Carbon Ridley built privately for just under a grand.

You might also email your LBSs and let them know what you're looking for. People often try to sell their bikes through their LBS. If they know what you're after, you'll be in mind when someone comes in, or when local teams upgrade their bikes.

Good Luck.

Have you looked at Planet X?

If I had an extra £300 I'd get one of theirs. I can't afford one unfortunately, so I'm looking for second hand bike around £700-£800. Anyone following this thread with a slightly cheaper, slightly smaller racing bike is welcome to PM me.

There's a Cinelli Willin Full Carbon Framed Bike ( Large ) on Ebay currently at £800..ish with an hour left.

Why not check it out?

There's a full Carbon KESTREL (American) bike at:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260499672169&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

These are quite well regarded in the US, and it looks in fairly good condition.

It is often worth while simply putting in your best (and realistic!) bid a few days before the end and waiting....

IF only one or two folk out bid you it is not unknown for a second chance offer to drift down your way. A surprising number of bidders can't, when it comes to the crunch, actually pay up - especially when get around the grand mark.

A couple of weeks ago I was outbid £610 to my £550 on a full carbon Carrera (yes, yes, Halfords, but got excellent Reviews at a grand RRP). Three days later it was mine at 550 - amazing what "cash and I'll collect tomorrow" does when a seller has been let down by two "buyers". And it's not the first such purchase that I've made!
