He fits the bill both as a massive signing (2 Giros, oodles of podiums) and also leaving a feeling of disappointment that the team still won't be so hot. He's also Italian, which folks on here have decided is one of the things Sky is looking for.
Just a thought. |
Bit past it though?

Not particularly a massive name signing, but I'd love to see Johnny Hoogerland sign for Sky, I thought he was fantastic towards the end of this season. Would certainly bring a bit of excitement to the team.
But I have to agree that CVV, Sastre or Cunego seem the most likely - out of the big names (perhaps CW have put this in as a red herring, and it's just a rider with a really long name!).
Hasn't Cunego been touted at joining Sky for most of the season anyway?

Sky's biggest problem in trying to produce a GB Tour winner is that out of the undoubted young talent they have signed the most likely to succeed isn't British!

Considering his alledged nickname in the peloton, I think this is highly unlikely...

Alledgedly - Johnny Testerone(y) - He had a run in with the authorities when he was on the Rabo development squad.
Also, the team doctor from his team quit during the Vuelta as he was apparantly not happy with what was happening. This is the team that gave Clement L. a ride this year despite not even Fuji Servetto being brave enough to go near him.

I'm getting a bit concerned that it's another false dawn.
We haven't had a serious rumour from anywhere.
Not even Omerta can manage that.
