After the recent success of a friends thread, i would like to shout out to anyone in the area that might be interested in starting a new casual road cycling club. My friends small club in Bristol is a great and from riding with them myself i wanted to try it here. Just post comments on here if interested and we can see where it goes from there Smile Just to let you know I'm 20 years old and live in Thame myself. I have been road cycling for just over a year now, 40 - 50 miles at the weekend when I can.

Interested?

If there is likely to be a club run early (and I mean Early!) on Saturday mornings, then I may be interested. That's about the only time I can get out and still maintain some degree of domestic harmony! Up to now, I'm a billy no-mates and do all my rides solo. But being a novice and therefore relatively slow, and considering my unsocial preferred start time, that's probably just as well! I'm in Chinnor, BTW.

10:00? That's far too late for me! Normally back home and tucking into a ham and cheese toastie by then! Laughing

Hi, I'm another billy no-mates solo rider, but I usually ride out on a Sunday morning, often coming through Thames from home In Waddesdon. Usually do 30-45 miles on a Sunday.

I probably wouldn't do a Saturday ride, as the family usually do stuff together that day.

Believe the Racquets ride is just turn up, not sure on mileage, advertised in the Gazette and the Freebie, if you ring Racquets someone will know and I've heard you get a bacon roll when you finish!

ahhh i see. Well a bacon roll is a bonus Smile i think i might check this out with a friend. i agree with you guys though, it seems that its just easier to ride alone when you have other commitments. Thanks alot for all the feedback though, nice to know im not the only lone rider out there Smile

Hi JKrays, I live in Thame, as do a number of other 'serious' cyclists. Most of us, me included, are members of the High Wycombe CC. The club president and road racing secretary live in town.

A couple of us ride out most Sundays, 30/40 miles or so, to Benson cafe or Whitchurch etc, sometimes meeting up with the Wycombe club run, which are always very well numbered. The HWCC also have their evening league time trial series on the Thame - Longwick road every Tuesday from April through to end of August.

There is a small group of riders I believe that meets at Raquets on a Saturday morning, but I think it's a very leisurely, social affair. Not going fast or far. I know one of the group, a wife of a Wycombe rider, and I don't think she'd be upset if I described her as a 'social' rider only, just keeping fit and getting some exerciuse, nothing too serious.

Why don't you give me a call on 07736 060386, we'd be very pleased to have you join us on a Sunday ride.

Hi, did I meet up with you near Risborough a few months back, one Sunday morning when I was out to marshall the HWCC club 25? We stopped outside Tescos for a natter?

Proto - are those Tuesday evening TTs for HWCC members only, or can anyone turn up and have a go? And would a newbie taking >30 minutes for 10 miles be frowned upon?

You'd be very welcome to just turn up and hav a go, although if you make too much of a habit of it you'd be encouraged to sign up!
We get plenty of other club's members riding as well, and somtimes this becomes an issue, maybe even more so next season. We've had as many as 50 riders and it starts to get dark before they've all finished. Note that a rear light is compulsory.

30 minutes would be fine, especially for a newbie. One female rider, always off number one, rides a rubbish mountain bike at a fairly leisurely pace, and finishes in 40 mins or so. David Millar turned up one night couple of seasons back, in full Saunier Duvall kit, team bike the lot and smashed the course record with a short 19!!

Proto - I don't think that was me. I know where Tesco is in PR, that's my turning point if I do my 'Phoenix trail loop'.

I ride a flat bar Ridgeback with lights and rack, so you'd know if it was me. Sunday ride might be nice, though. If you are busd this weekend, I'll maybe get in touch for the following Sunday. I do like to socialise if I can.
Cheers

David Millar still has local connections I believe, but I don't think he's a member any more.

Rebecca Romero turned one night a few years ago too!
