i think shared pedestrian cycle paths should be abolished entirely.

some people cycle far to fast on them, which appears to be the case here.

Just to be clear, there were no road markings of any kind. The pedestrian started to cross the (fairly wide path) and as I was several feet away from him and had already started to turn in, I kept going at no more than 5 or 6 mph. He suddenly stopped - unnecessarily but fair enough, good to be careful etc. - and the other cyclist, who had counted on him not stopping (and who could also see me and what I was doing clearly) couldn't stop in time to avoid hitting him.

I think it's the other cyclist's fault. I think it's unfortunate as the ped did something unexpected, but sometimes they do and it was entirely blameless on the ped's part in this instance. It sucks that his laptop got broken and I hope someone's insurance covers it.

Oops, looks like I was wrong about the ped being potentially partly responsible Embarassed

I think it is your fault and you are solely to blame

My reason? Just to cause you to get upset at me!

I'm sorry for that departure from my usual standards.

I'll try harder to be more offensive in future

Since no one has taken the opportunity to suggest a response to the other cyclist.....

Whatever the events that lead up to it, the other cyclist seems to have run down a stationary pedestrian in broad daylight? So they were either cycling too fast to be able to stop, or were away with the pixies.

I don't think you have anything to feel bad about.

Follow up: other cyclist should put the ped's laptop back into the state it was before he ran him over.

Just my 2c...
