I been told (by T F Tuned) that my MC3 RockShox (165x38mm (6.5x1.5") ) is finished and needs replaced. I ride a 2006 Trek Fuel Ex 7. Prefer a good stiff lock out option (should have bought a carbon hardtail but that's another thread) but open to suggestions.
Not really got much of a clue about what to get. Mainly do Scottish cross country open hills stuff (Ochils, Pentlands, etc). Not many rocks on the descents with mainly quad, walkers and sheep tracks. Aware the bike's three and half years old so I'm guessing a top of the range shock might not make sense but still need something decent.
Any thoughts?

the fox rp23 gets good reviews. X fusion are bringing out a load of cheap-ish air shocks for 2010, but i hear the quality control is pretty iffy.

or find a decent RP3 top of the line in 2006 around the same time as your frame, i have one on my Santa cruz and from what I have heard it's a decent shock, can get them push tuned as well which is almost like an RP23 upgrade internally.
Rockshox Monarch's are also meant to be decent, the 3.3 and 3.4 have performance similar to RP23's and for 2010 they're coming out with a dual air option meant to be more tuneable for high and low speed compression.
