hi guys , decided on upgrading my suspension forks after , ahem , recent rider abuse lol.
can anyone provide a link or how to video on step by step removal of existing forks.
already checked parktools site and our forums tech faq's and not found anything suitable.
i am technically skilled and have decent tools ( sparky by trade ) just need some guidance.
many thanks for any help or tips
p.s. bike is felt Q520 ( '09 ) and forks are suntour xct.

just thought , is the wedge washer located at the top or bottom of the head tube ?
and do i need to grease anything on re-assembly ?
grovelling apologies on ignorance.

If its a split one like Hope's it's a doddle. The solid ones are tough but with patience ands
a screwdriver you can get them off without damaging the race or the forks (too much anyway!)

update to original post ; forks and crown race now successfully removed but....
wots the best method of removing the threaded star washer embedded inside the
old forks steerer tube ?
i'm assuming thats part of the headset and wont be included within the new foks ?
thanks again for any help. |
Your best buying a new one there only a couple of quid. You can set the new star nut with just a hammer but it may go in at any angle so try and buy a star nut setter tool should be under a tenner.
