As the title suggests really. I've got a spare FSA Team Issue carbon crankset that I'm thinking of putting on a 'cross bike.
In the past I'd have thought - bad idea, it'd get scuffed up and look messy - an opinion supported by the relative lack of carbon MTB chainsets.
However, plenty of people seem to be building up 'cross bikes using Sram Force / Red with no ill-effects.
Anyone got any experience of this? Will my chainset look manky in next to no time?
Any ideas welcome.

I've got carbon cranks on my cross bike - FSA SLK - it's more dependant on your pedalling style and whether you generally scruff the cranks with your foot. Most cross courses are muddy, so less likely to damage your bike than MTB where you tend to have rocks and generally rougher terrain.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side.. |

Depends on the pedal axle length, I tend not to scuff cranks so should be fine, but if you do then you wont.
TBH i'd pop them on, and then helitape them to prevent scuffing.

I put vinyl on my crank arms to stop them getting scratched. Black, looks lovely.

I've got Chorus on my cx bike. No probs with any scuffing, etc.
