Speccing up a pair of new wheels on the Merlin site. So far I have decided on Mavic XM719 rims and Shimano XT 6 bolt hubs with black spokes.

So far all very simple but which brand of spokes ACI black or DT comp black at £16 extra. I know DT have a good reputation but so do ACI at least as far as motorbike wheels go. Ayone got any good or bad points of view on ACI.

I mean £16 is a fair bit of beer and they are only bits of wire.

I have gone for dt spokes for my merlin wheels in the past and for the wheel builds i've done in the past.

TBH they're both good, but i'd cough up for the dt because i'm a tart.

In practical terms, nothing in it. The ACI are a touch lighter as have 1.7mm middle sections, compared to the standard 1.8 of the DT Comp.

So do you reckon £16 of beer is better than £16 of spoke

Hopefully the spokes will last longer than the beer
