Bike Indicators

I've recently taken up cycling to and from work to get fit and save some petrol as well.
I'm from the UK and the nights are drawing in here. Poor visibility and rush hour traffic are not ideal for a safe ride I must admit...
Just wondering if anyone rates any indicators and whether they are worth looking into purchasing to improve safety and visibility???

Any thoughts...

Hi Harry,
there are numerous types of Indicator devices for the rear of bikes which are on the market!
I prefer to give hand signals myself as I find that motorists pay more attention.

Have recently came across a new signal Indicator from the UK which can be used when giving arm singals to other motorists on the streets:

How about those "Indicatears" advertised in the mag a few months ago ?
They were lights that fit behind your ears so your earlobes light up when you indicate Wink

I think he said "Blessed are the cheesemakers".
What's so special about the cheesemakers?

Cars wont be looking for bike indicators. The hand signals are the best and safest - combined with you looking over your shoulder.

Have you read any skills books ?

What about an indicator like an amber light on an arm band to be used when you give hand signals???
That way your hand signals can be more visible!!

funnily enough I saw a set on a bike the other night and thought how attractive they were (in a attracted my attention - not good looking!!)

Dual lane road by the park up to the hospital - rider was in a good position about 2 to 3 feet from the kerb as I came up behind him he "indicated" to move across in front of me into the right lane to turn into the hospital - they were actually really effective - it was about 6pm so dark and wet but they really stood out. The rider backed them up with a hand signal too - but the indicators were really effective. I noticed he had one flashing on the front as I went past him - perhaps on the bar-end (it was a flat bar hybrid bike) not sure what type they might have been.

save the money from the indicators, and buy more red and white lights.
