they advise you not to but the seals can be lifted with care.

not sure on bb width can measure in morning its what ever pitch bb are? , cannot seem to find the size on net and the mech bolts to a bracket that bolts to the frame hope that makes sense only used to seeing clamp on ones or braze on.
Cheers.

so a 73mm BB shell and an E type mech would mean no spacers.

the seals are not designed to be lifted, says clearly on the top not for dissasembly. I took one apart that I didn't need and it became notchy afterwards. If it's working just leave it and wiat for it to die then buy a Hope one Wink

You can certainly lift and replace the seals, and if you do it right the bearing will work the same when you replace it. But, I reckon if it's not running well it's probably past recovery anyway. The "do not remove" label means nothing, except "We'd like you to buy a new BB"

You can fit replacement bearings to XT BBs apparently... Never done it myself. It doesn't work out an awful lot cheaper than a new BB, and XT bearings are pretty good to start with.

We still do it because we're forever chasing what we've already found

That's what I've just done. Nice blingy red one.

It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result

I followed this guide to servicing a bottom bracket but gives you a good guid of how to take it apart, its really really easy. Takes about 10mins per side and bottom bracket runs really smoothly afterwards - http://www.socaltrailriders.org/forum/workshop/39938-chris-king-bottom-brackets-anyone-2.html

If you're worried about greasing the bearings, just replace them from any good bearing company. They're only a couple of £ each.
