a lot of threads on this at the minute but is the MINI bit going towards it being short or is it because it would be unsuitable to use a DH bike eg my 02 bighit.
whilst on the tread when i had a mosey on the site and was unsure what happens when you do
if you register are you asked the catogory you are racing in or is that all on the day
thanks

At the one in Chicksands people were going down the track on pretty much any bike!! The jumps were mini and optional - it was basically about 10 seconds of fast flowy singletrack with a couple of small jumps / drops.
Cant remember about category registration though.

The chicksands mini DH was a bit of a joke, in that it was a short bit of singletrack with less gradient than the 4X.
However, the Forest of Dean Mini DH was, by all accounts, pretty good and I know that Chris Roberts is seeking new venues. It's a good way to stick your toes in the water of proper downhill racing.

I can see that yes for experienced riders it may seem tame but its a great way for kids to get involved (and older riders just starting out) without the risks of a bigger course. I enjoy them because they are not so serious!

A mini DH is supposed to be a short format race aimed at people who have never raced downhill before. This does not mean that the track should be twenty seconds long, mostly flat or smooth as a baby's ars*, or else the step up to reality is far too great.
The Forest of Dean is a proper track. Chris Roberts is onto a real winner with that one. Good venue, good track, good finish and the step up to reality won't have people saying "I've paid for my entry, but this is too much compared to what I've done before, I'm going home".

We went and practiced the new track on the weekend. I thought it was harder than the one they used in the last race, more muddy off camber corners and slippy roots, plus it was longer (using the top part of the hill and crossing the fireroad to the bottom section where the previous race was). Was fun but I'm pretty sure i'll crash come race day...

Are you on about the 661 mini dh which is happening in december at the forest of dean. cause if you are i rode the track in the half term holiday on my norco.
and it was pretty good. it is called a mini dh because the track is really short, it is made short because there isnt an uplift service avavlible on the raceday. so that means you have to push up a network of fire roads. and also its basically just a shorter version of the longer track. i was going to enter but i dont have enough money to get there and stay for the night and pay for petrol mone. plus i have only just got my new (well second hand norco) so i am gunna wait until next year.
you dont have to hug trees 2 be green but it helps severly
