Does anybody know if I can just swap out the following hubs for Shimano XT jobbies, without changing the spokes?

1) Bontrager select (fitted to the front wheel of trek fuel 8 i think?)
2) Shimano M525 rear with silent freehub

If it means I have to replace spokes I won't bother..

you will need some new spokes.

Could you please elaborate on why?

As I've been told by someone that he thinks the Deore and XT hubs have the same spoke pitch circle diameter, so should work if I got a hub with the same number of spoke holes? The bontrager I have no idea about..

Cheers

Depends on the exact model of hub. They (XT and Deore) don't all have the same CD dimesions, plus there are other dimensions to consider too.

if you want the definite answer go put the info on the hubs into a spoke calc and see what come out.

But like SS has said not all hubs use the same dimensions, not even the same XT hubs as they changed model by model.

If you were replacing like for like then no probs.

with the provided info sell the old wheel and buy new on XT hubs from merlin or some other builder.

Nick, I can't find any definitive info on the Bontrager Duster tubeless rims I have to put them into a calculator, and I'd rather not take them apart just to measure them, unless I knew I could rebuild them on XT hubs.

As it stands if they're not interchangeable, I'm just going to leave the hubs as they are until they are un-usable and need replacing anyway Smile

ride_whenever, I would have imagined that swapping the internals relies even more on direct interchangeability than swapping the whole hub out? Especially in the case of swapping XT internals into a bontrager hub!

what is actually wrong with the hubs?

just give them a service.

Why do you even want to change the hubs, if there's nothing at all wrong with your current ones?
