Any info on this? How does it compare to road 531, how does it compare to aluminium MTB tubing of the same size?

Stronger as a rule, and you can repair it. Ideal for a 26{mtb size} wheel tourer.

Thanks. I saw one for sale but he couldn't tell me the weight so I didn't go for it.

Just noticed this. I have a Mercian mountain bike I had built (to my specification) over 25 years ago. It's built with 531 All Terrain tubing. It's still in regular use as my winter/shopping bike. The frame angles were copied from some Ritchie specifications I found in a magazine. It is of course without any suspension.

It was very early in the mountain bike's development and components were difficult to source when I built the bike up. I used a triple TA chainset (46/36/26) with a 13-28 6 speed screw-on block. I've replace the chainset and rear mech with more modern components but the wheels are more or less original (I replaced the rear rim 10 years ago but the spokes are original).

Sounds good. The one I saw was a Dawes Countryman.
I've since bought a 531 road bike with triple chainset and clearance for CX, the seller says it's 11.4kg, it's due around the end of the week.
