Having once again been surprised (ie had the s**t scared out of me) at my inability to stop in the wet at the bottom of a hill, could someone recommend a good set of winter pads.

Thanks.

Kool Stop Salmon pads get a good recommendation. I sat on the fence and bought the Dual Compound Kool Stops (half salmon, half black). So far so good but not used properly in the wet so thus far no better than the standard black carts that came with my 105 brakes. Sure the other recommendations will closely follow!

Got Clarks fitted to my Fixed Commuter - very good stopping power.

SwissStop GHP (Green) are good in the wet.

They do pick up more grit/alloy shards than other pads so worth taking a scalpel or file to them to clean them up every couple of weeks, especially after riding in the wet.

Hi Fossy. Are these the pads you're using?

Just bought a new bike and the pads are utter dross! Looking for better stopping power Smile

Sorry to hijack this thread, but I'm a little confused about the pads. Are these the ones you mean:

or do i need inserts? I have a trek 1.2 if that makes a difference.

Thanks.

No, they're for MTB V-brakes.
You'll need some of these: http://www.dotbike.com/ProductsP5993.aspx?utm_source%3dinternal%26utm_medium%3dsite%26utm_campaign%3dDDI

You'll need two sets - one for front, one for rear. However, each set comes with two lots of pads - a Salmon pair and a Dual Compound pair (shown in pic).
