I have recently started MTBing again having broken my leg in 3 places earlier this year. A couple of weeks ago was my first time out since, did a couple of runs round Cannock.
One thing I struggled with was getting a face and glasses full of mud so I thought about gettinga front guard, having tried one of those bodge jobs with a piece of innertube before with a little success.
Anyhoo, yesterday was my 2nd ride out since 'the incident' and I decided in for a penny, I'll go to Coed y Brenin. Did the Dragon's Back route which was immense fun despite the ridiculous, relentless rain. It was also the first time I tried mudguards.
[shamlessplug] Now, I am an enormous bike tart, particularly with road bikes and I was somewhat reluctant to fit the guards to the MTB but my word, what a difference!
Much much better, particularly the front which was one of them new fangled Crud Steve Peat Fast Fenders. Didn't have to wipe my face once
The back was your usual Crud Raceguard, again, rather successful!
Still got wet through obviously due to the rain but the mud was kept at bay...

The best thing was that I have regained my confidence on the bike though. Thought I might be biting off more than I could chew doing CyB so soon but I was soon flying along with a huuuuge grin on my face.
