Its too complex to write out here, but to get started read through this...

Make sure you fully understand it before you decide to go ahead and build a wheel... Spoke length is crucial, make sure you don't use the wrong length spokes or your wheel will be all wrong.

you can also buy a wheel building book from www.wheelpro.co.uk which includes a plan for a wooden truing stand in it. Seems like a good guide
