Well done that man. the trouble is now you have to do it in one go, but you can and you will, just take your time and you'll be fine.

Birdlip Hill is a tough climb and well known by the local cyclists of Gloucestershire. The road was built by the Romans and was once the main route between Gloucester and Cirencester, (see A417).

Birdlip was bypassed eventually and so is not too busy these days. That makes it quite attractive to cyclists out for some hill climbing sessions. And there are plenty of hilly route choices in this area. It's where the Severn valley rises about 300m up onto the Cotswold escarpment. Stay off the A417/A435 and meander around the lanes. There's some short but nasty little climbs. Perfect for sportive training!

There you go - pretty tough climb. Keep at it, you know you can do it all now and to be honest it can be easier to get up in one go rather than trying to re-start on a slope. You know there's no part you can't ride, climbing is as much in the head as the legs (well, maybe not quite Wink ) so now you know you can do it you'll get up it for fun.

He has been bitten by the bug John and soon will be as bad as the rest of us masochists when it comes to hills. Well done Marc and you'll see a little confidence goes a long way.

PROSS is right (it's in the mind) there is a hill near all of us that took us may be years to crack, But once cracked you know you can ride any hill anywhere, mine was Boltby Bank.

Much power tp your elbow marcthehammer, I 'm a truck driver and can say that that hiill causes some trucks a problem, never mind a bike.

How does Sutton Bank on the A170 between Thirsk and Pickering rate amongst you climbers. Fills me with dread when I'm fully loaded, especially in the winter. Shocked

.

I need to beat Falkland hill here in Fife before the end of the year. Have been building up my hills over the last month or so, the more I do the more I want Twisted Evil

Will do it, I've no doubt, the only thing thats stopped me so far is that it's a 35mile loop and I've not got properly comfortable on my saddle. Last week I made a major step forward with the setup and a good long (not too uncomfortable) ride this week should see me take it on the next week. If I can do this then I can do most if not all hills in Fife. Have heard of a few very steep ones that are shorter but want to beat those too Very Happy

And to think when I cycled a lot when I was young i positively hated hills Rolling Eyes

Kev

onwards and upwards . . . hopefully!

I keep as far away as possible ,too many wagons Laughing and spilt diesel for me. Boltby to the left (heading up) and white horse bank to the right are much nicer hills (and steeper)
