Got my magicshine yesterday after a month wait, looks good and works. After reading this forum went to Maplins yesterday lunchtime to get a plug adaptor and asked if they had anything to replace the charger - was told by the guy in there that they didn't because it was "specialist 8.5V". Didn't look on the shelves myself, just took his word for it.

always a danger in maplins....my experience is that the majority of folk who work there know everything.....except they don't

I went out with a scruffy girl once......turns out she was just crazy!

Hi Guys

Please find link below to MagicShine Instructions: -

http://home.comcast.net/~jharger1/MagicShine%20instructions.pdf

I have just ordered a MagicShine off Ebay from the US £70.00 inc P&P.
Reason I ordered this one was that it has 5 modes instead of the normal (i think) 2.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=270471269924&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT

Is the charger problem an issue with all of them?

Am I correct by saying that the charger doesnt know when the batteries are charged which is where the problem is?
The batteries on the one I bought from ebay are protected so would this matter?

Many Thanks

right !!!

good news!

went to maplins to get a charger, turns out the fact we have 240 and the charger is 110 doesnt matter. on the back of the charger it says voltage from 110 to 240 so a standard plug adaptor from dx is fine.

maplins converter was 20 quid!! as was the charger but it was 9 v but he daid it would make little difference.

so i asked to try it. while i was there i asked him to get the volt meter on it.

power coming from the charger!!

power from the battery!!

so ive left my light plugged in but not switched on ( cos it gets mad hot) so the green light is on over night

i was waiting for the light on the light to turn red so i knew it readed charging, but i got board and tried it in the charger and hey presto the charger light went red!!!

so im guessing in my case that the battery only registers if the charge in the battery is getting low.

so try running your batterys down then charge..

oh and dx said cos its been less than 30 days of purcase send it back and we'll replace it, but its fine !!!!

YYYYEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSS!!!! Razz Razz Razz

I notice there are two version of this light
The bar mounted one
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.25149
and the slightly cheaper one with a head mount
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.29489

Which is the one to go for? The fact that one has less kit yet is more expensive makes me think it might be newer?

BlackSpur, i'll let you know when i receive mine as i've ordered both of them.

Unfortunately they were showing as packaging yesterday morning, but today they were both showing as 'processing - contact us for updates', whatever the hell that means.

I think the one with the headmount is actually the newer one.

Hi,

I have ordered one of these lights and an adapter for the charger.

I received the adapter a few days ago but the status of the light has said 'Ready' for about 10 days.

Just wondering if anyone who has previously ordered one knows what this means?

DX have not yet replied to my query sent a few days ago.

Cheers

Ordered a plug adaptor and the $80 bar-mount variant of this light. Does anyone know how long the batteries take to charge?

That's you that is!!

Comes almost fully charged but takes 4.5 hours to fully charge according to the instructions, mine has never taken that long though.

I've also got one of these magicshine lights on order and getting pretty impatient for its arrival.

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.25149

Noddy question but can the supplied battery charger just be plugged into a UK socket via a simple plug adapter or will I need a voltage converter?

Will work fine with an adaptor, plug works upto 240V
