New shock, it's the coil version of the previous shock. The grips and end caps are fairly new also. I also got a cheap full face helmet so I'll just put that up to :)

Cheers, yeah it's good - It's got a 450 lb coil on it at the moment which I think is too much for me - 11 stone.

It handled itself fine on Aston Hills downhill runs though. Only downside was the added weight on the pushes back up - it all adds up! Was yours coil or air?

Yeah I read a previous post where an orange bike got a lot of stick and was quite surprised that people thought of them like that. I think they're awesome bikes. Ok so they may not be as light or have as good components as a bike that is a couple of hundred pounds less.....but then an Aston Martin is generally slower than a Nissan gtr and I know which one i would rather have.

    Thanks.

Orange fives tend to get a lot. To be fair it isn't as heavy as you'd think. I've never weighed it but I've had a go on similar types of bike that have been heavier

People that slate orange bikes are generally those that haven't owned them!

I'm a sucker for a Halifax built bike! I've had a few, and it took the nukeproof mega to get me away from them! If I fall out with it though, an alpine will replace it!

    Nice patriot!

I had a patriot LT in black - quite similar to that ran it in various guises over its life with me including a brief stint as my xc bike while I worked in Les Gets as my wheels fell apart on my hardtail. Ran it with a triple chainring and some lighter xc tyres - too heavy for the big hills though really and too wallowey.

I have a Big Hit now which I have to say is a better bike IMO but then my old Patriot was a 2002 I think and the Hit is a 2009. Patriots are like the 5 in that you either like the girder look or you dont - I didnt mind it while I had the bike but it looks dated now I think.

It's funny you have compared it to a big hit, it's one of the few similar bikes I have ridden. The bighit was better specced then my patriot, with a plusher feel to it -but was so much heavier. I also prefered the stbaility and general sturdiness of the patriot compared to the big hit.

Ive only ever had my patriot in FR mode, but have seen others with 120mm travel XC kit outs.

Yeah the look is marmite, but it's not dated - it's "old school" 8)
