Bloomin imageshack is pain in the arris! My bike above (hopefully) - spec below (over the weekend it was transformed by magic in to an On One Carbon 456). It was a bloody good frame and for nearly 3 years it never once let me down - from Trail centres like FoD to Woburn to 40mile XC night rides. Upgraded as bits wore out. Loved it.

2007/08 Carrera Kraken XC
•Deore M596 brakes with 6bolt 180mm rotors back and front
•On One Twelfty seat post with On One seatclamp
•On One Big Nose saddle
•ODI Yeti Lock on grips
•Lapierre oversize stem 80mm
•Lapierre oversize riser bars
•FSA headset
•Truvativ crankset (cant remember BB but it was pricey) with DMR V8 pedals
•SRAM X7 shifters 3x9
•SRAM X5 front mech 3x9
•SRAM X7 rear mech 9speed
• SRAM PG997 rear cassette 9 speed
•SRAM PH971 chain
•Superstar Superleggera's in Gold
•Superstar XC430 rims black
•Sapim spokes and brass nipples
•Superstar skewers in Gold
•Panaracer xc fire pro red stripe 2.1's
•Suntour XCR 100mm forks

I have 3 Halfords in my locality, and for the most part, servicing was poor and I now never use them. However, they sell some fabulous bikes, none more so than the Krakens. My bike helped me back in to riding after a big absence and always made me smile when up against my groups £1-2k's bikes. Mine was 2nd hand (nearly new, hardly used) for £130 :D. Actually, I just read this post back and I may build the frame in to a 2nd bike! (the missus will not agree).

I look forward to seeing more Carrera's on this thread. All the best - Paul

My 2012 vulcan

Image

Nothing much done to it, changed the tires to racing ralphs, saved 500g per wheel

Going to keep it fairly standard and replace stuff as it wears out/I wreck it

You mean tyres ^
Managed to convince one of the girls in the uni mtb club to buy one of those as a starter bike, she should be picking it up tomorrow. Looks like a cracking bike for the money :)

Got your message but it won't let me reply!

Just finished adding the last of my xmas presents to my fury tonight so I will get some pictures at the weekend if I've got time. I don't really feel it's a carrera though as I've built it up from scratch

They're good bikes but the brakes are poop, try and pick some SLXs up or similar. Will improve the bike greatly!

I'm a bikehut mechanic and see how many sets of those brakes literally fall apart!

Deore brakes can be had for £60ish and they're brilliant! But check the rotor isn't rubbing against the pads first.

Had this bike maybe 8 months now, upgraded various bits. The bike stands me about £300 so far. I love it and it goes great.

Will any of the newer Kraken or Fury frames be much better than this old one I have? It seems fine to me.

I really like your Vulcan. Few years back now but the first thing I did to he kraken was change the tyres to Conti Verts! - good all round tyre which I would buy again.
Love the green Superstar bits too.

But - is it the angle of the bike in the photo or is your seat pointing down a fair bit?
And you need to ditch the pedals or at the very least, take off the reflectors ;D

Cheers :) It's a good little bike. and yes the saddle was pointing slightly down which has since been sorted and the pedals are next on the list (the reflectors didn't stay on long) :) managed to pick the tyres up for £11 each.

Just add mud!
(and don't requote pics unnecesarily, clutters the thread, you can edit between the quote marks!)
