Carbon 456 to Carbon Titus FTM

Postby booyaka » Mon Jan 07, 2013 17:24 pm

:D:D

woo-hoo! Just arrived - could hardly resist at £599 for the frame and shock. Basically moving all the parts from my C456 to this frame. Everything should port over apart from new headset which has been ordered from superstar.

Might need new cabling dependant on lengths required etc but likely to take about 7-10 days to build due to work and kids (  )

Anyway - straight out the box picture - more to follow.

cheers only downside so far is no rear mech hanger attached to frame as you can see!- nothing in the box either!

Called on-one and they will send me one out asap. Need to get some helicopter tape as well.

arhmagawd! If I hadn't have gone a bit credit card mad recently I could have modernised the Moment at that price... Ah well. They're beautiful bikes. I shall keep my eye open for a full build

Very nice! :D

Make sure you put heli-tape directly around where the cables exit, near the headtube. The cables are designed to move in and out of the frame as the suspension compresses, but this means that it can wear the exit hole away slightly. On mine, it went through the paint and started to wear the carbon away before I noticed. The heli tape seems to have fixed the issue.

cheers for the tip!

Couple of things before the build kicks off have slightly annoyed me - no mech hanger like i say, but should be on it's way.

2nd thing is tonight having a closer look at the frame, it appears that the "cups" that are pressed into the front of the frame for the fork, the top one appears to be slightly misshaped, thus the superstar headset bearings that are supposed to just "drop" into it - don't because of the slight misshape. Will have a proper look tomorrow but can't see anyway of sorting that properly.

Will get a picture up tomorrow to show you what I mean.

Also not sure what this means but on-one had loads of the FTM's in stock in various colors and sizes yesterday - however today the price has jumped back to 849 and every model and size are suddenly out of stock!!!

Last picture probably shows the "flatspot" best.

Email to On-one about getting a replacement has been sent.

response from on-one

I will ask for one of our technical team look at your photos and give me the best advice - will contact you tomorrow.

Not sure what the technical team will say other than - it's ****ed! Await tomorrow's response! Somewhat frustrating having a nice shiny frame sitting in a box at the moment!

thanks -

We will need to get this frame back and exchange unless you can think of another solution?

not sure what other solution is as the frame is useless in it's current state - courier booked for return of frame - hopefully start again next week!

Anyway - returned to on-one after they confirmed a replacement would be issued

Despite a through quality check by the guy I have been dealing with, he personally checked and packaged it himself, tons of packaging and bubblewrap in the box and no visible damage to the box, new frame turns up today - snapped rear mech hanger!

The plastic spacer bar in the rear triangle had snapped and left a piece in the hanger side - carefully removing this and the mech hanger just dropped off - looks like it's sheared almost.

Honestly - cursed from the outset or what?

Back on to on-one for a new rear mech hanger - hopefully they'll throw in a space one for all the hassle!!

Hope you get this sorted, as has been mentioned previously On One's returns/customer service department is very good.

When you finally get all the bits and build it, the ride will not dissapoint

Blimey, that's pretty bad luck you've had so far. Sure it will be worth it in the end though :D

They been "ok" so far.

Initially they contacted me to say they had no spare rear mech hangers, and it would be 2 months before they get the next batch of spares

They suggest buying a spare one from another website and they would refund me the cost. I wasn't going to do that and suggest that they take a mech hanger off the 40/50 other carbon FTM frames they have in stock and send that to me. No having spares is not my issue! They have agreed to do that.

Not the best, but not the worst so far. Disappointing that 2 weeks after ordering it, I still can start building yet!

Looks like On One need to consider changing their shipping agent!

Check the chain and seat stays carefully if it's taken an impact hard enough to snap the mech hanger and shipping brace in transit, hopefully the sacrificial parts took the brunt of the impact, but it pays to check!

Best of luck with the build.

After lots of coming and going - it just about there. First time building my own bike from the frame up and it can be hugely frustrating but at the same time hugely rewarding!

Initially on-one eventually came up with a mech hanger and I could get on with the building.

Anyway - finally just about there.

Full new cables (gear and rear brake) needed so that took some time as well. Just about there - still not quiet happy with the front mech as no matter how much mucking around I've done, it not sitting quiet right.

Rear suspension still has to be properly set (that could be fun having done some reading!)

Spec list will follow in a few days as tempted by a couple of changes - most of the kit came off my C456.

But porn pictures for the time being.
