Pasteys 2007 LTD Ed Orange Clockwork HT.

Postby pastey_boy » Wed Jun 12, 2013 13:56 pm

I recently acquired a 2007 Orange Clockwork limited edition frame No 12 of 200. It is in great nick and will form the basis of a general trail/xc bike. I lusted after the original Clockwork back when my student income meant owning one was out of reach so I am looking forward to completing the bike and getting out on the trails. I have all the bits to build the bike, I am just waiting on the custom Fox/Orange fork decals from Slik Graphics and a few other orange themed bits that will make my Orange very orange indeed. Pics in a day or two.

Here she is all finished. I'm going to do a bit of touching up on the frame and also replace some of the less than pristine decals but overall I am happy with the result. After a quick blast the bike feels lovely and smooth and everything functions great. Weighs in at bang on 27lbs which isn't too bad although I expected less considering some of the build items. The white Bontrager stem in the pics was temporary and the black Thomson x4 is back on.

Yeah got the mail, The wheels are great and the adapters work great too although if I remember correctly no Valves came with the wheels. With regards of you using your tires with the wheels I would always advise using Ust or tubeless ready tires, plenty knocking about for less than £20. I know people have used the on-one tires in tubeless applications but I myself only fully trust Ust/tubeless ready tires as other combo's can be hit and miss.

I love the Gravity Dropper posts , used them on a few different bikes and have no complaints. Replacement parts are cheap and the post can be serviced with ease and when play develops it is easily cured with a few cheap parts. They dont have infinite travel like their hydraulic counterparts but ease of servicing and the low weight offset this. Some say they are ugly but I reckon they look fine. My only gripe is the price but like Speedplays I think your paying more for the concept than the actual component.

This is lovely mate, them wheels are damn hot :D

I my look into a set of those as i think they would suit mine - Do you know what they weigh, roughly?

Also, (not sure if this is allowed, if not let me know) how much should i expect to get selling my current wheels?

Again, lovely bike mate.

The bare wheels weigh 1598 grams but the adapters add approx 150grams . I reckon your wheels would pay for the EA70's and any adapters you need..

Cheers for the comments, I think this one will be a keeper. My fave part of the whole thing is the Slik graphic fork decals. Only parts I am going to change will be the chainset as I really dont like the shift quality of the Middleburn rings so on goes a set of Fifteen G/Hive crankarms along with a Zipp ceramic BB, chainrings will be 24/36 with an orange anodised bash ring ,and the tyres will be the originally planned UST Rocket Rons. Also fitted a Bionicon C guide.

Fantastic, though I would have gone with white cables ;) I agree that the gravity dropper doesn't look too bad...

Been a while since the clockwork has had any attention so I have made a few changes to make her a little bit more retro whilst still being a usable and fun bike. Swapped the tyres for a pair of skin walled Charge Splashbacks which I am running tubeless due to the wheels being ust ready. The tyres inflated first time and sealed instantly, even better than some tubeless ready and ust sets I have used. I have removed the 10 speed sram xx rear mech and x0 twist shifters and replaced them with a pair of dura-ace 9spd thumbshifters and a shimano xtr rear mech along with a sram pg980 9spd cassette. Chainset has been swapped for a deore xt triple. The white charge knife saddle has made way for a selle italia yutaak ti. finally I have swapped the bars and stem for a set of syntace vector carbon low risers and a thomson x4 and grips are now a pair of orange silicon esi racer grips. Really chuffed with how the skinwalls look and how the whole bike works . will take some pics when weather permits

Love the charge splash backs, fitted them to my wife's bike she really rates them on the trails as well! Not that she would know the difference.
