Which lights for beginner night rider..??

Hey, I'm just getting back into mtb again and i'm pondering on getting out at night and doing some night rides. only problem is the lighting situation. Havent got any that are good enough and was wandering if anyone could recommend some to me. dont want to spend a fortune but don't want to buy cheap rubbish..!!! any ideas..???

Look at What Lights? which has a link to a 'simple all you need' set up... there's a huge discussion thread (latest incarnation here), and one of the contributors - DIY - has a posting of his recommendations.

XML torches are a good shout... less than £10 each (you should have a min of 2... one bar one helmet - better definition and 'redundancy' too), £5 charger, £5 for cells and £5 for bar and helmet mounts. So all you need can be had for £40-50 if you go down the torches route. That's not much to spend to hugely increase your riding opportunities! There are plenty of other options, too... as you will see it's a BIG discussion.

id second the cree lights mate,they only take upto a week to come and you can afford to get 2 at the price!!
i got 2,one on helmet one on bars and its as bright as my car on full beam!
ive been getting around 2 3/4 - 3 hrs out of them

they look uncannily like the magic shine lights that I was just looking at... I guess that they all come out of the same Chinese factories and just get re-branded.

Yup....you pay a lot more for the warranty and support, but as they are fairly reliable and for the price of one magicshine you can buy 3 of the Chinese sold ones.......they aren't that unreliable!
