Specialised Myka Comp or Ghost miss rt??.. HELP!

Postby Lisa101 » Tue Apr 24, 2012 17:46 pm

Hi all,

Put a post on the forum last week about the Ghost AMR miss 5900, but unfortunately realised my budget just won't stretch that far!..
Sooo.. I've got about 1k and want a full sussa womens MTB. I kinda leaning towards the Specialized myka FSR Comp or Ghost Miss rt 5100 (both 2012). I can get both bikes for £1200 but which is better?? Anyone rode em?

Thanx ppl

Ghost. I've not tried the rt 5100 if I'm honest, but based on trying the Myka & two other Ghosts (sorry I can't remember which model so perhaps that's unfair) the Ghost was soooo much nicer, better bang for your buck & looked prettier! Can you try them both?

Thanks for your reply, much appreciated. Yeah I know the Ghost bikes look so much more slick than the Specialized!.. AND the myka's are in awful colours! I got the concept store nearby and I can go and try the Specialized whenever, I'm waiting for the Ghost to arrive at Evans (which will take 3 weeks apparently). So I'm waiting til then really- gonna try em' both to compare ;) Ooh exciting! I'll post a review lol

Oh I share your pain! After demoing everything in the world ever, I finally made a decision, put a deposit down & now have to wait til June for the steed to arrive!! Good luck with the new arrival :)

Didn't like either tbh- both too short on the top tube meaning the handlebars were literally on top of me wen stoodover and just wasn't impressed enough overall with the feel of them. I thought buying a womens specific bike would be more comfy but definitely not for me...
So I demo'd and I bought a Giant Anthem (Mens), not ordered from Evans this time (thank god.. terrible service). What a comfy bike, fits me perfect and a joy to ride ..flipping love it :)
Girls- don't be fooled by thinking u must have a Womens bike, try the Mens too ;)

For 1k a full suspension bike wont be upto much and will be well heavy.
I would either get a decent hardtail for £8-900 or save up for a decent full suspension bike which ould be 1.5-2 ish.
Or get a decent 2nd hand full suspension bike that was previously a couple of years ago a couple of grand.

Hi
Mrs Finlayson99 has had a Myka Expert full suss for the last 3 years or so. She finds it perfect for her, the fit is good and doesn't cause any probs for her previously bad back.
Good spec and well built bike.

My advice would be, if you can, try them and see which fits you best
SC Heckler
Malt 4
Triban 3
Chopper Mk2
Grifter
Merlin Malt-CR

I already have and they wont list the weights of the bikes?

You might wish to share its weight with us ( dont forget to take off its earings first).

The Anthem X5, which can be got for as little as £899, weighs 27.5lbs in medium.

I ride a Specialised Myka FSR (not sure if Comp though). I like it and sizing suits me fine. Only niggle is the colour (white). But bought by my OH as a birthday present to me so not going to complain too much :)

The only other thing I find is that the lock on the back suspension tends to lock itself when knocked (i.e in transit) and so I always double check before I set off that it is in the unlocked position.

Had a Specialized myka comp a about 4 years ago, it fell to bits after 9 months of riding, kept sending the forks back to rock shox and other bits back to specialised, ended up selling it on, on ebay, as it spent more time being fixed than being ridden towards the end.

Got a Scott now, 3 years of riding and not problems at all, only needed general servicing and new chain/cassette etc
