Postby clarkson » Thu Aug 09, 2007 20:17 pm

whenever im riding my i-drive for more than 40 minutes without stopping, my neck aches really bad and gets worse throughout the riode. i cant raise my handlebars any more; ive got no more room left on the steerer, and am running a fairly short stem. what else should i do to try and eliminate it? thanks in advance

More warm up/muscle rub?

I know ithis sounds stupid but you could try keeping your neck lower and looking up with your eyes more - as if looking over the top of a a pair of glasses. This probably won't work on descents.

Apart from these obvious things, I think it's a case of getting used to it

Have you trid moving the seat in an inch or two. Also you may be able to roll your bars back , giving you a better and more comfortable riding position. Hope this helps.

is it the front/sides/back of the neck? if the front/sides and it's like a sore muscle pain maybe start doing sittups/crunches to build up-warm up the neck muscles? if it's something else that might make it worse though, dunno.

i've moved my saddle forward and it helped a bit, but when i went to the iow the other day, it still cained after a bit. i do tend to carry a heavy bag, especially if im on a long ride, but it could also be bad posture.

its the back of my neck.

I get the same thing. I used to get back pain as well so i went from a 90mm stem to a 40mm, which cured the back pain but the kneck pain remains. They don't make a shorter stem, saddle can't go any more forward and bars as high as it will go, so i think the only solution is to strengthen the kneck muscles and stretch before a ride. Anyone know of any good exersizes for the kneck?

Cheers,

Andy.

Has the peak on your helmet slipped down? I had the same problem, I zip-tied the peak a little higher up and found I didn't have to lift my head as high to see.

i thoink its to do with the angle my necks at in relation to my body. as in im looking up whereas if my head were level id be looking more or less at the ground.
