Planning a ride from Bangor to Cardiff

Postby booldawg » Thu Nov 29, 2012 19:24 pm

Hi All,

I'm looking a riding Bangor to Cardiff using mostly NCN routes 8 and 82. Has anyone had experience of this?

I did the Whitehaven to Tynemouth C2C last year but thats pretty much my only experience of long distance routes.

Any pointers to how well its signposted and good B&B recommendations etc.

My overnights are Bangor, Dolgellau, Rhyadyer and Brecon.

Bit confused as to why you'd be using 82, as it would be quite a detour. 8 runs from Holyhead to Cardiff, so covers the whole length of the route you mention.

I can't speak for the rest of the country, but certainly around here (in the South) the route is very well signed, and you can't really miss it.

Hi, to clarify, we'll be taking the 8 from Bangor and following it down to where it splits with the 82 a few miles East of Port Meirion. We'll then follow the 82 to Dolgellau and then pick the 8 back up to Machynlleth.

Mileage wise there doesnt seem to be alot in it.

did this in a day , but its a great route to do touring- i would try and make corris first day, not to far past dolgellau, great independant hostel there, plenty of choice in rhyadyr, when you thinking of doing it mid -winter ?

I did Dylan, even looked into equipment etc. I'd camp over on a 2 dayer, we're doing the SDW sonmetime this year and its only one night out.

Anything longer than that I'd want to pitch up at campsite with shower facilites etc. Also it'd be alot more gear to carry. I did the C2C last year over 3 days and got away without panniers.

I guess I'll look into it, see what others do and get ideas. I can see why the freedom would be a tempting idea, no worrying about getting to your next point, especially if you're running late. Also alot cheaper than B&Bs.
