Truing Sram S60'S

Does anybody else have a pair of Sram S60's?

I bought a pair as store surplus without a manual, and have been very pleased with them. I've ridden them a long while and so I need to true them.

Unfortunately, the rear wheel seems to have a problem:

The problem seems to be that the spoke wrench key only adjusts the spokes on the on the side of the wheel opposite the drive (as in the side that moves away from the cassette). The radial cassette side spokes don't seem to have a nipple within the rim that seems to want to connect to the tool.

Is there something I don't know? I am finding truing a wheel with only half the active nipples (especially since there is a low spoke count to begin with) is proving problematic.

Do you do something strange like tighten and loosen the drive side spokes from the hub side or something?

Would be very happy to hear what people have experienced, it seems strange that this isn't mentioned on the internet anywhere?

Right, so I have found that the non drive side of the rear s60 wheel needs a 5.5 internal spoke wrench.

Does anybody know what spoke wrench is needed for the drive side?

I have checked the SRAM online manual, and their website, and they seem to mention everything apart from what tool is required. They suggest that you should use a spoke tension meter on the drive side radial spokes, which makes it clear that they are adjustable, but still won't mention what tool to use.

:shock: SRAM has me stumped!! :shock:

Assuming they use the same oversized Alu internal nipples as the AL30 the 5.5 internal spoke wrench is all you need (I use this one

I suspect the problem you have is finding the end of the nipple in such a deep rim.

Reviving an old thread.

The S60 need a 5.5 Hex socket with a narrow shaft to go through the 7.6 mm rim holes. The Park tool, as well as others have a > 8mm shaft. What I did was to file down the shaft until it got thorugh. It seems still plenty strong anough to be functional.
SRAM of course do not sell tools, although possibly the Campagnolo one might work (if long enough)

I've got a set of S60s, a spare front S60 and a pair of S80s.

One set of these was brand spanking and the others I picked up second hand when a bargain cropped up. The new ones came with everything as new as you'd expect and in with the manual was an appropriately sized nipple wrench. Mine have been pretty bomb proof but I did snap a driveside spoke on the S80 last year and once I found some spare spokes it trued up nicely.
