Saddles that even LOOK sore ?

Postby Raffles » Sun Oct 14, 2012 18:27 pm

Id never personally laid eyes on a Specialised Toupe...........until today

Our club sunday outing had a member who had a technical and we had to stop by the road. I looked back and one of the guys had the meanest and sorest looking saddle id ever laid eyes on. I asked him what it was and said my bum hurt just looking at it  He laughed and said he really dug it.

Are there any saddles you had seen that just looked sore to you without even getting on it ?

The Toupe, the cutout shape gives clearance to a gentleman's undercarriage, seems like a good saddle.

I'm regularly disappointed when showing my pride and joy to non-cycling friends. The initial reaction is mostly "Hmm that saddle looks painful"(It's a Specialized Romin and I love it dearly)

I know a guy who really loves his antares. Funny thing is you could put 6 pockets on it ,cover it in green baize and play snooker on it as it is seriously flat. I dont know how he doesnt slide off the fore or aft :?

I didn't get on with it.. only tested it because the Aliante was already out on loan so I thought why not?

Wasn't even ok over an hour.

The Toupe and the Romin are the most uncomfortable saddles i've owned in 20 yrs of cycling, nothing even comes close and that comes from a bloke that uses a SLR flow carbonio, they look uncomfortabnle but aren't.

The most comfortable was Selle Italia Turbomatic that i had in the 1990s

The Toupe and the Romin are the most comfortable saddles i've owned in 25 yrs of cycling, nothing even comes close and that comes from a bloke that has tried an SLR flow carbonio, they look uncomfortable and are.

Thus to prove there is nothing more polarising in cycling as saddles

Adamo - they look hard, squat and bulky but are the most comfortable saddle I've ever used as they put the weight on th right parts of your undercarriage and are not designed to look good.

and for the next few hundred miles wonder if you are actually breaking it in OR it just does not suit you. (Tried a B17 in the past and was in pain/numb for months, way over the claimed 50miles, before finally giving up).

As least with modern stuff you pretty much know in a couple of hundred miles.

However as with ALL saddles if Brooks work for YOU they work for YOU

Hi Buckie,

If you are based in the UK, then I am opening up a new "try before you buy" online saddle shop in the next few days, the website is http://www.tryasaddle.co.uk

Or, if you are in the US of A, we will be opening up in Williamsport, PA, home of the little league :P, in November, the website is http://www.tryasaddle.com and should be up in the next few days so bookmark it:)

Regards,

Jay.

i had a toupe on my mtb for a while - it was a comfy saddle, unfortunately it couldn't take much pounding and gave out during a difficult landing. Probably should have kept it for the road bike.

Anything that doesn't have a man cut out or love grove looks uncomfortable to me.

Had a Toupe and although it looks sore i found it comfortable, eventually it broke and i've switched to the Romin Evo (i had heard that this was a little bit better when in the drops than the Toupe) and so far so good
