Advice Please - Cycling Club in Bournemouth & Poole

Postby kristianwilson » Sat Jan 12, 2013 23:43 pm

I have been road cycling for a few years now and think its time to join a club and take it to the next level. Besides I am fed up with riding on my own most of the time!

Does anyone have any recommendations for a cycling club in the Bournemouth & Poole area. A quick google returned a number of clubs including:

Poole Wheelers
Bournemouth Jubilee Wheelers
Bournemouth Arrows
New Forest CC

Does anyone have any experience of any of these clubs? I'm looking for somewhere friendly but somewhere where I can develop my road cycling to (hopefully!) a competitive level. Your help is much appreciated!

Thanks for the suggestion.

I'm right over in the east of the county. Dorchester, Weymouth and Bridport are in the west of the county, its a good 40 min drive to get there!

Anyone else have any experience/suggestions?

Hi,I'm in a similar boat. Live in Bournemouth. Been here 2 yrs and in that time have cycled alone - unless old riding buddies from afar venture down. I've looked at all the clubs but never been and tried them. No reason really. I've always thought Poole Wheelers seemed the best option.

If you fancy a ride out let me know - PM me. Always happy to share my rides. Currently restricted to one decent ride at weekends for obvious reasons.

Thinking I'll probably look to take the plunge and try a club or two when the clocks go forward.

Cheers

I live in Verwood. Have investigated all the clubs mentioned above before, but they didn't seem to do as many groups runs or ones that met with my schedule. All seemed to be very involved in the racing and especially TT'ing scene.

I did say I wasn't so interested in that and I was 'Advised' that perhaps I shouldn't join. This was a fair few years ago mind and I do know some of the attitudes have changed.

I still find Dorset Rough Riders more of a sociable bunch and do a fair few road rides too.
