Cassette Advice

Postby NWLondoner » Sun Jun 14, 2009 10:02 am

I am considering changing my cassette to help me out on the Surrey Hills.

I currently ride a 50/34 with a Shimano 10 speed 105 12/25.

I ideally want some extra slack when getting up hills but without compromising my flat road and downhill speed. Would a SRAM 11/26 or 11/28 be of any benefit?

12-27 or 11-28

both will give you a little extra.

See http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/SRAM_ ... 360030267/

for a good price on the OG1070 11-28

12-27 has single tooth spacing up to 17 so is a good choice. The gaps on the 11-28 are too big.

Sorry to hijack yor thread but i am in the same situation but wondering whether to change the rear cassette or chain set .
I currently ride with 53/39 and a 12 / 25 cassette which would be the best option please

What about one of these?

you mean change the chainset? (chainring is limited to 38t on a Shimano double, and 39 on Campag)

Compact is one option for sure. Depends on a few things (fitness, terrain, cadence etc.)

You can see how various setups influence gearing here

Currently when I shift I usually skip a ring anyway so the gap may not be too bad for me :?
