b'Twin Triban 3 (£300) vs Specialized Allez 2013 (£450)

Postby Lolage » Mon Oct 08, 2012 17:40 pm

Hi

I'm looking at getting my first road bike. Done a lot of research which tells me that the Triban 3 is excellent value for money but went to a bike shop today and was offered the Specialized Allez 2013 for just over £450 which is a £550 bike.

Is there much difference between the Triban 3 and Specialized? Both have an aluminum frame with carbon frame and both seem to have the Shimano 2300 groupset?

Would like to think the Specialized is a better bike than the Triban as I'd like to support my local shop but at the same time if there isn't much difference saving £150 would be pretty neat!

Can anyone help? =)

Cheers

I have a 2012 Allez and the Triban 3 is basically the same bike without the badge. If I had known of Decathlon when I bought my Allez, I would have saved myself £300 and bought the Triban.

On paper, the 2013 Allez is worse than 2012.

Whichever you buy, swap the tyres out straight away to transform the bike. The stock Specialized tyres on my Allez were awful and I have heard similar things about the Btwin own brand rubber.

I thought as much! The Specialized does have a nice looking frame, but for £300 the Triban seems like a cracking bike!? Decathlon has just got my size in for the Triban 3, so tempted to buy it but will see what anyone else has to say!

Any other views? I just found out that the Specialized Allez doesn't have a carbon fork..?

I got one of these last month for winter training/commuting & I can;t fault it for what it does.

No carbon either but I did a 50miler on it last weekend and was great.

I've not ridden either bike but I'm very pleased, 4*'s from bike radar too.

Since posting my last reply to this, I have bought a Triban 3 for my girlfriend. Good bike, buy it. Also, Decathlon staff in the Birmingham store were exceptional.

For the money I doubt that you can beat the Triban 3.

I have had one since June, ride most days in most weather and love it.

The Shimano 2300 gears do their job well.

The bike came well bolted together and well set up and I really could not find fault with it.

Frame even has "designed in France" and "made in Italy" stickers on it for what it is worth.

Have a read of the reviews of it in CA.
