The raw read error is different per drive type and manufacturer and as a number on its own is meaningless.

My view on this is simple. If the number is static then I'd ignore it as it may just be the result of a single issue which was corrected automatically by the drive long ago. If however it continues to rise then I'd look to replace the drive.

Just my two penneth.
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.

running the long test now.

the NAS had said it had failed. so i took it out and put it in my "hot" slot and the PC recognised it etc.... put it back in the NAS and all was good.

still turned it off after the re-sink. and bought a replacement drive just in case the result is poor.

if it passes i my just add it to this PC as extra storage and use the new drive in the NAS.

lets see what the result is.

I've never seen that happen without a reason. Sometimes the reason is that the power was shut off unexpectedly, but if you've got important stuff on it - especially if it's in a vulnerable RAID array, then it's better to be safe than sorry.
