Mountain biking in Andalucía

Postby SpeedFræk » Wed Jul 04, 2012 11:20 am

I live in Andalucía and wondering if anyone knows of good professional, well known companies that offer well not so much a "holiday" but to go for a day as I live in this region.

I know of switch-backs only.

Thanks :)

Why not buy some 1:25,000 maps of the area and go and explore, there are 5 maps that cover your area they are IGN - CNIG (Spain Civilian Survey).

Or download an app.
Now where's that "Get Out of Crash Free Card"

Hiya,

Just got back from Andalucia myself just recently. Used a local company called http://www.mountainbikingspain.com

I can't recommend these guys enough.

Here are some pics from my rides. You should be able to see a lot of white 'tracks' in the mountains. These are local routes used by farmers and hunters whilst on quads to get about so some of the trails are hair raising to say the least. Its currently the hottest summer they've had for 60 years so it is absolutely imperative you make some serious safety calls about when you go riding. 2 weeks ago it was approx 45 degrees at midday.

For the above 'On-One 456', with upgraded parts they charged me approximately £10. No deposit but prepare to leave your passport with them which is a fair deal I think.

Another recommendation for http://www.mountainbikingspain.com/

We spent a week in Spain last March ('11) and even though myself and partner are mixed ability, Vic and Einat at MBS were able to take us on rides that both of us enjoyed. We were both very tired from a busy spell at work when we got there, so didn't do loads of riding. I got the feeling that we didn't even scratch the surface of what's there - it looks like there are trails going off all over the place, and it seems like it's quite varied - unlike some places where we've previously been (Pyrenees), where it's all steep up and then steep switchbacks down. Vic and Einat's knowledge of the trail network sounded totally encyclopedic, so I think they'd be the guys to show you around - they're also properly qualified, licensed, insured and first aid cert'd etc. (oh, and they know the good tapas bars :) )
